Hello. My name is Nicole Davidson and I am the lead photographer of Nicole Emily Photography. I was born in Brandon, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 1. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been sociable and loved talking and getting to know people. I was that little girl that would come and tap you on the back to tell you that I thought your hair was really pretty. I was raised in a family that was about giving to others and paying it forward. I’m positive that is the reason why the thing that makes me happiest is putting a smile on other people’s faces. This is one of the many reasons I became a photographer.

All through my early years of education my teachers would preach about how important it was to make a difference. Going through junior high and high school I struggled trying to decide on a career path that I loved and that I could make a difference in. I thought I had to be a doctor or join the military to make a difference. I came to realise that making a difference starts with one small thing for one person, if you can help one person you’ve made a difference. 

Since I can remember my mom always had a camera in her hand. Being an only child meant I was her main model. One day I decided to pick up her camera and test it out. I was somewhat of a natural and people would compliment me on my ability to “see a good photo” without even having a camera in my hand. In high school I decided to take some photography courses that my school offered which is where I found my true passion. When I started taking photography more seriously, I never thought of it as a career path, I just enjoyed taking pictures of my friends. It wasn’t until I was photographing one of my good friend’s graduations that I realized how much photography can impact a person. Six months before my friend’s graduation her dad passed away in a tragic car accident. I knew graduation was going to be a very tough time, so I decided I wanted to do something special for her. I planned that I was going to surprise her by giving her a framed print with her father edited into the picture. When I gave her the picture the look of gratitude and appreciation on her face filled my heart with joy. She said “this is the best gift I never knew I needed.” It also meant the world to her mother and sister. It gave them a sense of peace they told me. Being able to give someone something that meant that much felt incredible. I then realized that photography is about way more then pretty pictures, it really can make a difference in someone’s life. This is why I am a photographer. Sure it’s partially because I love taking photos but mostly because I love putting a smile on people’s faces and doing a small part to make a difference in their lives.
